Make Children
Strong
This is an example of one way that the Federal Centre for Health Education,
Germany choose to tackle drug misuse. An advertising campaign run in 1991
took the form of a series of A4-size leaflets each tackling one issue considered
to be important in drugs prevention. The five headings under which the campaign
was run were: 'Make Children Strong'; 'Longing'; 'Adventure'; 'Freedom'; and
'Trust'. The text of the leaflets are reproduced here. But first some background
information which the Federal Centre for Health Education (FCHE) produced
for professionals in health education and the media.
The Background
The number of drug-related deaths has increased sharply in the last few years.
The fear is spreading that children and young people could be offered drugs
that pull them into a life-threatening drug scene. A fear we take seriously.
The illegal drug market and all those who profit from it must be fought. However, the fact that drugs exist does not in itself cause a person to become addicted. Supply and demand are also part of addiction development.
